Otitis media is the term used for a group of inflammatory disorders of the middle ear.
Research
The evidence for use of chiropractic for the treatment of otitis media is “unclear” (Bronfort et al 2010). Some studies say it is effective and others say it isn’t, telling us that it works for some but not for others. One negative study said only 5 osteopathic manipulations didn’t prevent reoccurrence of ear infections. Because the research is “unclear” it is not part of the medical guidelines for paediatric treatment.
Our Case Study Experience
A Child presents to our clinic with low back pain. Case history shows his parents need to drain his ears of ear wax every single night. He has missed a lot of time off school due to ear infections over the past few years. Treatment to date has been antibiotics and ear draining. After getting adjusted his parents noticed there was a huge decrease in ear wax build up and now only need to drain his ears every 2 weeks and it is still less than the previous daily build up. If he didn’t have back pain he may still be suffering with his otitis media, all because the evidence is “unclear”.
What is “Clear” is Chiropractic is not a treatment for any symptom, Chiropractic makes your body work better. Chiropractic makes you heal better. Chiropractic allows you to reach your potential.
